Flagship Project Collaboration

Led by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Centre’s flagship project brings together over 30 universities and space organizations from Hong Kong, the Mainland, and around the world. The leading Mainland partner is the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), a key player in China’s deep-space exploration endeavours. Together, this collaborative team is driving the development of the Chang’e-8 Hong Kong Operation Robot, a pioneering contribution to China’s lunar exploration program. Leveraging the HKUST Shanghai Centre, the project utilizes its state-of-the-art laboratory spaces to facilitate collaborative development and seamless coordination with Mainland partners. These facilities not only support critical research and testing but also serve as a vital bridge for cross-border innovation, enabling real-time knowledge exchange and integrated system-level validation for the mission.
